The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

Title: The Name of the Star
Author: Maureen Johnson
Series? Shades of London
Acquired From: public library
Summary:  The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London, it's the start of a new life at a boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago.
Cover Rating: 3/5
Comments on the Cover:  It's nothing really special. It shows an old-timey guy in a cool top hat and coat looking like a ghost. It fits the purpose, and does describe the book. It's just kinda... predictable.
Character Comments: The characters were charismatic and lovely. There was a lot of depth to them, and they all made you smile. Some were quirky, some were serious. Some were serious, and others were silly. Maureen Johnson's strong point is definitely strong characters.
Favorite Characters: Jazza, Boo and Rory
Character Rating: 5/5
Plot line rating: 5/5
Plot Line Comments: One thing that hit me was how this book was so different from the others I've read by Maureen Johnson. I've read quite a few, and her writing style seems very... chick-lit-ish. This was different, and the whole story line was unique. Just when I thought I had it... there was a twist. I like a book that proves me wrong.

She then begins her senior year at highschool. Where Marcus Flutie is still there being, well, Marcus Flutie. And Marcus isn't the only annoying thing happening right now. Jessica's older sister, Bethany, is pregnant. And her mom, once again, is up to her eyeballs, this time preparing for the arrival of her grandchild. In other words, Jessica's life is one big ball of chaos.
Cover Rating: 3/5
Comments on the Cover: I'm not a fan. It seems more of an advertisement against depression or an eating disorder.
Character Comments: The characters are just too funny. Jessica's so cynical it's amusing. And Marcus, please don't get me started on Marcus. Meh, I'll start anyway. I LOVE THE MAN. And Len Levy. Ungh. I love nerdy guys <33
Favorite Character: Marus, Jessica, Bridget and Len
Character Rating: 5/5
Plot line rating: 5/5
Plot Line Comments: It was good. It had a twist. Not that I can tell you. Because you're all going to read it. Right? RIGHT?!

Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Title: Crank
Author: Ellen Hopkins
Other Books in this series: Glass, Fallout
Series Name: N/A
Summary: Kristina Snow is the perfect daughter. The summer before her Junior year of highschool, she decides to go to Albuquerque to visit her dad. She has the image of the perfect father in her mind, but when she gets there, she is disappointed to find out he works at a bowling alley and drinks and uses drugs. She soon meets Adam, or "Buddy". While introducing herself to him, she creates Bree, the daring side of Kristina. Adam introduces Bree to what she refers to as the Monster, Crank, or Crystal Meth. Crank chronicles how Crank changes Kristina/Bree's life.
Review: Everybody told me, "OMG, you HAVE to read this book, it's so good, blah blah blah." That's the only reason I got it. Because everyone else told me to. When I started reading it, I fell in love with the writing style. Writing a whole book in just poems? Pure genius. I kinda wish I had come up with the idea first. The story was riveting and addicting. Kristina's story was heartbreaking. I couldn't put it down. It's such a realistic look in a teenager's mind. The book was mind blowing.
Cover Rating: 4/5
Comments on the Cover: It must have been hard to create a cover to introduce this book. The cover is simple and mysterious. There's not much of a summary you can give for Crank, and I think this is perfect.
Character Comments: You kind of hated all the characters, while all the while relating to them. Kristina is annoying, you want to smack her for doing all those stupid things. You hate her dad, you hate her mom. But they were well written.
Favorite Character: Chase

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

Title: Perfect Chemistry
Author: Simone Elkeles
Other Books in this series: Rules of Attraction
Summary: Alejandro Fuentes is the bad boy all the good girls want.
Meh.
Not Really.
Alejandro, or Alex as he is most commonly known is entering Fairfield Highschool as a senior. Not too bad.
Oh, did I mention he's in a gang and has one of the worst reputations possible?
My bad.
Brittany Ellis is a senior just trying to finish her highschool years. Though everyone considers her the stereotypical blonde bimbo cheerleader, there is actually a lot more to Brittany. A lot more that she has no intention of letting anybody see.
When Alex and Brittany have to team up as Chemistry partners, will they fail because of their differences, or maybe, just maybe, will that Chemistry be... perfect?
Review: My sister saw this book in Barnes and Noble and made a huge deal about how awesome it looked and how she HAD to read it.
Of course, I WAS the one who ended up getting it from the library and reading it first.
I don't think I've read any book like this before. The romance was RIDICULOUSLY amazing and everything else was basically just perfect! AH! I loved this book and am hoping that Simone will quickly write more sequels.
Please?
Cover Rating: 5/5
Character Comments: Alex and Brittany equal best modern Romeo and Juliet to this day. Just saying.
